Worry Part 1

What is the first thing that comes to mind when you think of the word WORRY? Please jot down your thought before continuing to read this blog post. This is an interactive blog post. So please grab a piece of paper and write down what you’re thinking of right now. Thanks ūüôā

What is worry?

Corrie ten Boom said ¬†“Worry is a cycle of inefficient thoughts whirling around a center of fear.”
According to the Dictionary
Worry Рa state of anxiety and uncertainty over actual or potential problems.
Synonyms for worry
  • distress
  • misery
  • anguish

There is something important missing in the above definition for worry.

Missing is the fact that worry is a SIN. Yes, I do understand that everyone will not agree with me about this. Certainly you’ve heard it said that a person must first know they have a problem before they will seek help. I think this applies to the subject of worry. We first need to see the truth that worry is sin before we can find the way to be free from it.

As mentioned in the previous post, Corrie ten Boom said much on the subject of worry. She certainly believed that worry is clearly a sin and we should deal with it as such.

“The words fear not occur many times in the Bible. The word of God has no suggestions; only commandments. So if we fear and worry, we are being disobedient, and disobedience is always a sin.” ¬† ¬† ~ Corrie ten Boom

casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you.    1 Peter 5:7  NKJV

casting all your cares [all your anxieties, all your worries, and all your concerns, once and for all] on Him, for He cares about you [with deepest affection, and watches over you very carefully].      1 Peter 5:7   AMP

Remember at the beginning of this post I asked you to write down the first thing that comes to your mind when you think of the word worry. Now take your pen and write down the first thing that comes to mind when you think of the opposite of worry. The next part of this series will be about the opposite of worry. Please share in the comments what you wrote.

The first word I thought of on the first study was “fear” and the second thought about when I was asked about the other way I’d think it…was…”trust in the Lord.”

    1. Lois, thank you so much for taking the time to comment. I also think of “fear” because if we really follow worries to their root it seems that we will find fear there. Praise the Lord that He can deliver us from it. I pray we will learn to choose “trust”.
