Psalms 30 Day Reading Plan

Do you have a daily Bible reading plan? Does the plan include a portion from Psalms each day?

If not, you might want to consider supplementing your current daily Bible reading with the Psalms. The Psalms are the prayer book and hymnbook of the Bible.

Why read Psalms each day?

I had this question a few months ago. So I did some reading and study on the subject. It was especially helpful to find out what people say who have a regular practice of reading through all 150 Psalms each month. One such person is author N.T. Wright. In his book The Case For The Psalms, he beautifully shows the reasons to develop the habit of reading Psalms daily.

The Psalms are the steady, sustained subcurrent of healthy Christian living. They shaped the praying and vocation of Jesus himself. They can and will do the same for us.

-N.T. Wright

Those who pray the Psalms day by day…are putting themselves in the position where, when faced with a sudden crisis, they will discover close at hand a line or two of a psalm that is already etched into the heart and mind and says just what they want to say, only most likely better than they could say it themselves in the heat of the moment. This book, then, is an unashamed encouragement for all Christians to weave the Psalms into the very heart of their devotional life and to expect to find as they do this that the way they look out at the world will change bit by bit…

-N.T. Wright

This short blog post barely begins to explain the value of reading the Psalms each day. I strongly suggest reading N.T. Wrights’s wonderful book – The Case For The Psalms: Why They Are Essential if you are interested in learning about the importance of the Psalms and how they can enrich your daily life.

Review of the book on Goodreads-

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I love this book!
I choose to read it very slowly over the course of a few weeks.
I highlighted and underlined much of the book.
The Case for the Psalms: Why They Are Essential by N.T. Wright is best read slowly in order to savor it like you would a fine meal.

Try adding the Psalms to your daily reading and see what happens!
