This beautiful book of Psalms is part of the Maclaren Series. The Maclaren Series is named for the famous preacher Alexander Maclaren. It is a series of elegant Bibles that feature regal blue highlights, verse numbers, and clear, line-matched text.

It just so happens that recently I’ve been reading and studying the Psalms, blogging about them, and creating a printable 30-day Psalms reading plan. So when Bible Gateway contacted me about possibly reviewing Spurgeon And The Psalms, I responded immediately with a big YES I would love to!

Spurgeon And The Psalms is perfect for anyone who loves Charles Spurgeon’s writing. It would also be a good choice for an introduction to Spurgeon. The book is of a high quality that you really can’t appreciate until you actually get your hands on it. The soft feel of the cover, the easy-to-read print, all the room to make notes, plus the words from Charles Spurgeon… I love it!

Let me give you a little taste of the goodness to be discovered in the pages of this beautiful Psalter.

A Psalm that many are familiar with is Psalm 37

Psalm 37 is found on page 85 of Spurgeon And The Psalms. Before the Psalm is a devotional excerpt from Charles Spurgeon focusing on verse 4. You can read the verse here – Psalm 37:4 at Bible Gateway and select any Bible version you prefer.

Delight yourself also in the Lord,
And He shall give you the desires of your heart.     – Psalm 37:4 NKJV

Here is a portion of the devotional thought from Charles Spurgeon found on page 85.

"Delight yourself also in the LORD." There is no room for fretting if we remember that God is ours; there is every incentive for sacred enjoyment of the most elevated and ecstatic kind. Every name, attribute, word, or deed of Jehovah should be delightful to us, and in meditating on it our soul should be as glad as is the epicurean who feeds delicately with a profound relish for his dainties. "And He shall give you the desires of your heart." A pleasant duty is here rewarded with another pleasure. People who delight in God desire or ask for nothing but what will please God; hence it is safe to give them carte blanche...
