Psalm 119

We are beginning week 3 of scripture writing on the topic of God’s Word.

As you open your Bible to Psalm 119, I hope you will choose to spend plenty of time in this beautiful Psalm. We could have based the entire two month long scripture writing plan on this one Psalm. Please consider writing out more verses from Psalm 119 than what are listed on the plan.

The entire purpose of Psalm 119 is to show the value and greatness of God’s word. It is not only the longest chapter in the book of Psalms but the longest chapter in the entire Bible. Here you will find different words used to refer to God’s word. In the particular translation I am reading (NKJV), I find many different words for God’s word. Here are some of the words.

  • statutes
  • precepts
  • commandments
  • testimonies
  • way

What words do you find for God’s word?

Plan to spend time this week and beyond in this amazing Psalm. Perhaps read it in more than one translation, select some words to do a word study, meditate on the verses and let it guide you in prayer.

The longest chapter in the Bible is proclaiming the greatness of God’s word!

How does that change your perspective on spending time in God’s word and scripture writing.

Open my eyes that I might see wondrous things from Your law.
~Psalm 119:18

Scripture Writing – Week 2

Welcome to week 2 of the June and July Scripture Writing Plan.

How did you like the first week of the plan? Did you write more verses than what are listed on the plan each day? I found that reading the surrounding verses to understand the context usually resulted in my choosing to write out a few more verses. After writing the verses I like to underline or circle key words and make a few notes in my notebook. Also finding this scripture writing activity to be a helpful guide for praying.

I’m really enjoying this theme of God’s Word. How about you? Please share something about your scripture writing experience in the comments below.

If you don’t know about the scripture writing plan, please see – Starts Today

Be sure to download a copy of the plan, grab a notebook along with your Bible and join us in the Psalms this week.

Starts Today

June 1, 2020

Today is the start of the June and July scripture writing plan. The theme is God’s Word.

Reading the Bible can be compared to eating food. Here are a few of the ways and you can probably think of more.

  • Needed daily
  • Provides nourishment
  • Should be chewed well
  • Needs to be digested

Scripture writing helps you to slow down and focus on a single verse or small portion of scripture. Slowing down gives more opportunity to notice things that might have been missed before. You will find that the practice of writing scripture will help you listen carefully for what God is saying through His word.

Reading the scripture for the day and then writing it is such a rewarding practice. There are many reasons to love scripture writing and the verses selected for the June and July plan highlight many of these. You will immediately notice that it causes you to slow down, absorb the words and meditate on the verses as you go through the day.

Later there will be a follow-up blog post about scripture writing. But for now download your free plan, find a notebook and choose the time of day you will be writing.

Psalm 25:14

My favorite daily Bible reading plan is the One Year Chronological Bible. In case you are interested in this plan, the month of May is a great time to start. Most of the readings are from the Psalms and it would be an excellent place in the Old Testament to begin.

Here is a link to a few earlier blog posts about the One Year Chronological Bible reading plan Leave a comment below if you would like more information about this or other Bible reading plans.

For those reading along in the One Year Chronological Bible reading plan, Psalm 25 was part of the daily reading on May 8th.

Let’s focus in on verse 14. So much in this one little verse! I’ve chosen to share the Amplified Bible, Classic Edition because it captures the point of the verse so well. Basically, the AMPC allows you to more easily understand the meaning of many verses without devoting time in research. I love being able to access the AMPC but of course, nothing replaces researching for yourself.

The secret [of the wise counsel] of the Lord is for those who fear Him,
And He will let them know His covenant and reveal to them [through His word] its [deep, inner] meaning.   – Psalm 25:14 AMPC

Here is an excerpt from what Charles Spurgeon beautifully wrote about Psalm 25:14

The higher spiritual life is necessarily a path which the eagle’s eye hath not known, and which the lion’s whelp has not travelled; neither natural wisdom nor strength can force a door into this inner chamber. Saints have the key of heaven’s hieroglyphics; they can unriddle celestial enigmas. They are initiated into the fellowship of the skies; they have heard words which it is not possible for them to repeat to their fellows. And he will shew them his covenant. Its antiquity, security, righteousness, fulness, graciousness and excellence, shall be revealed to their hearts and understandings, and above all, their own part in it shall be sealed to their souls by the witness of the Holy Spirit. The designs of love which the Lord has to his people in the covenant of grace, he has been pleased to show to believers in the Book of Inspiration, and by his Spirit he leads us into the mystery, even the hidden mystery of redemption. He who does not know the meaning of this verse, will never learn it from a commentary; let him look to the cross, for the secret lies there.

The secret [of the sweet, satisfying companionship] of the Lord have they who fear (revere and worship) Him, and He will show th

Daily Bible Reading Plan

What daily Bible reading plan are you using right now?

What do you like about your reading plan? What don’t you like? Please share by leaving a comment below.

I have been reading the One Year Chronological Bible, again this year and love it! Reading the Bible in chronological order is wonderfully helpful and enjoyable. I also participate in the Read Thru the Word Bible Study.

My usual morning begins by spending quiet time with the Lord. This includes reading the daily portion of scripture from the One Year Chronological Bible. The Read Thru the Word Bible study provides access to a daily teaching video by Wendy Pope. I love Read Thru the Word and highly recommend it to anyone who wants more from their daily Bible reading experience.

Would you be interested in finding out more about it? You can sign up now to receive news and updates for the 2020 Bible study at Word Up Ministries

Today is a perfect time for you to start researching and deciding what Bible reading plan to choose for 2020. If you pray about it and explore the options now you will have plenty of time to be ready on January 1, 2020.

No matter what your other plans, goals or desires are for next year, make sure to have a plan in place for daily reading God’s word.
